St.William's College
St.William's College by the Minster
The college was at the nerve centre of King Charles' government in early 1642 before he departed to raise the Royal Standard at Nottingham in August of that year.
The college housed the royal mint and the printing press. The latter under the supervision of the king's printer Robert Barker. From here propoganda was published in the form of 39 tracts addressed to the royal supporters.
The courtyard and rooms on the upper floor make for very interesting and evocative viewing.
