Olympian Court

Olympian Court, Lawrence Street, York.

With the birth of Olympian Court, east central York has never looked so elegant.

When complete, the extensive development will include a total of 200 brand new one and two-bedroom apartments, all elegantly styled with all the hallmarks of modern living behind the traditional cream brick exterior.

All three sections released to the public so far have been snapped up like particularly hot cakes on a baker’s sill – and more of the same is expected with the unveiling of the latest block.

Inside, you find the airy, contemporary feel of an open-plan kitchen living area goes hand-in-hand with classic architectural touches like bay windows, with some third-floor apartments boasting a balcony.

The fitted kitchen is kitted out with electric hob and oven, and all of the apartments look out over communal green areas and landscaped gardens.
The location is perfect for those getting their feet onto the second and third ladders of the business world – and offers the perfect chance to simultaneously clamber onto the property ladder in York.

Prices start from £132,950 and there are deals available to give an extra helping hand.
The plusses make a long list – easy walking access to York city centre, set on a busy Park & Ride thoroughfare, allocated parking in an area close to one of the council-run numerous resident parking schemes.

Take the A1079 in the opposite direction and you are en route to Hull, or can slip onto the A64 to head west for Scarborough, Filey and the coast, or east to Leeds and beyond as you hit the A1, M62, M1 link-up.

Unlike many of the developments leaping to life in and around York, Olympian Court is also ideally located for the University of York.

New staff would be hard-pressed to find a better location that offers closeness and enough distance to keep you out of the office 24/7… and a handy, well-beaten track to York city centre when it comes to letting your hair down.

The area surrounding Lawrence Street does have its drawbacks though. Inevitably, where there are students there’s the odd bout of term-time booze-fuelled rowdiness, which will inevitably drift past Olympian Court as they stagger home to the many uni residences situated in the vicinity.

But, in fairness, the uni has taken an active approach to being a good neighbour and all students are encouraged to keep a lid on it (alcohol permitting) and disturbances are kept to a minimum.

The close proximity of Tang Hall, Acomb’s twin in the trouble-making reputation department, could also be a concern, although things are looking up.

The other obvious drawback is the fact that Minerva is still part of a work-in-progress with several other blocks still being built.

Could be a downside… but the optimist will see something extra to look forward to in due course.
If you like the sound of Olympian Court but Minerva is not for you, coming soon is Romulus – a self-contained block of one- and two-bed apartments set in its own grounds.
