King's Manor - Royal Residence

This magnificent building was home to Charles 1st on visits to York in 1633 and 1639.The king also initially stayed here - before moving to Sir Arthur Ingram's mansion by the Minster - when he moved to York in 1642 before the outbreak of the Civil War.
The Manor was the subject of the attack by the Roundheads on Trinity Sunday 1644 and indeed was at the forefront of action during the siege suffering damage accordingly.
The main doorway has the initials and arms of Charles above it.
