Haxby York

Haxby is a village on the River Foss to the north of the City of York and to the south of Strensall.
Haxby was a Danish, Viking settlement in the Ancient Forest of Galtres.
There are approximately 12,500 residents living in Haxby and Wigginton.
There are about 5,200 dwellings in the ward.
The population density of Haxby and Wigginton is approximatley 1950 people per square mile.
The actual size of the ward is 6.4 square miles (1655 hectares).

Haxby and Wigginton consists of the following areas: Brockfield, Wiggington, Earswick, Haxby, Huntington, Stockton on the Forest, Strensall, Towthorpe, Alne, Brandsby, Coxwold, Crayke, Cundall, Easingwold, Huby, Husthwaite, Myton-on-Swale, Raskelf, Sutton-on-the-Forest, Tollerton.

Haxby Hall built in 1790 on 22 acres of land and although the owner donated the pleasure grounds around the building to the village, (now the Ethel Ward Memorial Playing Field) the hall was demolished in 1960. The playing field now contains a children playground, ball playing courts, a scout center, and more. It is also the location of the village fairs and celebrations.
In 1965, the hall was replaced by the Haxby Hall Residential Home for the elderly and an adjoining ambulance station.
